MASTER OF THEOLOGY

PURPOSE/ OBJECTIVES

The Master of Theology degree is an academic program designed to provide the student an opportunity for additional and advanced studies in the theological disciplines, particularly through training and practice in the use of the methods and tools of theological research.

TARGET GROUP

The Master of Theology program has been designed for students who have previously graduated from a three-year graduate program with the Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent and who desire to further his or her preparation for a pastoral or teaching ministry, or for doctoral studies.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION/ MAJORS

The degree of Master of Theology is offered in two major fields: Biblical Studies (Old Testament and New Testament Studies) and Theological Studies. Each student is required to major in one of these two fields of specialization.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To enable the student to communicate a thorough knowledge of the Bible, including a synthetic understanding of its major books.
  • To enable the student to evidence an understanding of the historical development of theology, a knowledge of evangelical theology, and an ability to support his or her theological views and apply them to contemporary issues.
  • To further develop the student's exegetical skills in the Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible and his/her ability to effectively communicate biblical truth to the modern world.
  • To deepen the student's love and devotion to Christ manifested by increasing obedience to God, love for others, fruit of the Spirit, and commitment to fulfill the Great Commission.
