MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION*

PURPOSE
The MA Education program is designed to help students use their platform as educators to impact lives and transform our world for the glory of God. Through MAEd, students will be equipped to: (1) Integrate a truly biblical worldview into their teaching and educational role, (2) Build critical, relevant and transformative learning environments where the values of the word of God are both caught and taught, (3) Articulate their faith in Christ against the encroachment of secularism and humanism in the educational world, (4) Lead students to transformation through a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, (5) Grow as Christ-centered educators that effect transformation in society.

TARGET GROUP
This program is designed for teachers and administrators of Christian schools and secular educational institutions. The program targets also professionals from other fields whom God is calling to teach and/or become educational leaders and administrators.

MAJORS
EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION:
equips educators in providing educational & administrative leadership roles with a biblical worldview. The program prepares students in the pursuit of a doctoral study in the field of education.

CURRICULUM DESIGN: equips educators who need further development skills to develop, supervise, and evaluate the school's curriculum with instructional focus on biblical worldview integration, differentiated instruction, critical thinking and authentic assessment. The program prepares students in the pursuit of a doctoral study in the field of education.

LEARNING & TEACHING: provides equipping with a biblical worldview to professionals in the educational fields as leaders or administrators of educational institutions, as faculty members, and as key players in other education-related fields including publishing, community service, and research. The program prepares students in the pursuit of a doctoral study in the field of education.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
This program is designed for teachers and administrators of Christian schools and secular educational institutions. The program targets also professionals from other fields whom God is calling to teach and/or become educational leaders and administrators.

   (1) be an education practitioner or planning to become one
   (2) have a personal ministry of evangelism and discipleship or teaching ministry (Sunday school, ALS, etc.)
   (3) pass a written examination covering math, English and abstract thinking.
   (4) have an undergraduate degree in education
   (5) take two additional courses in education if undergraduate course is non-education

DISTRIBUTION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 67 trimestral units (TU)* of work is required to complete an MAEd degree. The credit hours are distributed as follows:

NOTE: * CHED requires 36 semestral units. IGSL MAEd requires 67 trimestral units. One semestral unit is equivalent to 2/3 of a              trimestral unit; thus for example, 67 TU x 2/3 is equal to about 45 semester units.
           ** One of the integrating courses for the non-thesis track should require a major paper on an action research or practicum in              their major field.

Previous graduate work completed in a recognized graduate school that has not been counted toward a degree may be considered for transfer credit to the MAEd degree on a case-by-case basis by the Program Committee.

FORMAT
The program is designed to be finished in two years up to a maximum of five years. Courses are offered during summer (April and May) except for the course ES 500 Cultural Worldview, which is offered every semestral break. Additional modular classes may be offered throughout the year depending upon the availability of teaching faculty.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
   (1) Completion of the 67 units with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 1-4 scale, 4.0 highest).
   (2) Approval of the candidate for the degree by the Graduation Committee.
   (3) Full payment of all accounts.
   (4) Successful defense of thesis (for thesis track).
