A.
Purpose
A number of correspondence study classes are available through the Extension
Department. These can be taken outside of the resident school either individually
or in a small group. The goal of these studies, as with other IGSL classes, is
to develop wisdom and conviction, imparting solid biblical truth applicable to
the student's daily walk and ministry.
Some correspondence study classes may be credited toward IGSL degree programs.
Most may be credited toward IGSL certificate programs. However, no IGSL degree
or certificate program can be completed by correspondence classes alone.
B.
Format
The two formats for correspondence classes are audio tape studies and inductive
Bible studies. The audio tape studies utilize a series of taped messages as
well as a textbook and structured notes. Students also write papers and take
exams. These studies may be taken individually or in a group. Assignments are
turned in directly to the Extension Department for grading.
The inductive Bible studies are taken by a group of three or more students
with an approved facilitator leading the group. A syllabus and instructor's
guide help direct the study. Assignments are submitted periodically to IGSL's
Extension Department for grading.
The correspondence program summary and class descriptions are available upon
request from the Extension Department. For further information contact the
Director of Extension or e-mail us at extension@glg-igsl.org.
CORRESPONDENCE
STUDY OPTIONS
All of the courses in this catalogue may be taken by any student. However the
credit earned depends on the nature of the course, the degree level previously
earned by the student, and the student's choice. There are two basic kinds
of correspondence courses available. Their names indicate the highest level
of credit we offer for these courses.
1)
Graduate Degree Credit Courses-
These may apply toward a Master's degree, an Institute of Biblical Studies
(IBS) certificate, or may be taken for personal enrichment.
2)
Certificate Credit Courses-
These may only apply toward an Institute of Biblical Studies (IBS) certificate
or may be taken for personal enrichment.
GRADUATE
DEGREE CREDIT COURSES
You
must have a Bachelor's degree (BS,
BA, or AB) to take the graduate degree
credit courses for Master's credit.
Taken this way, assignments are more
demanding, and grades are for an
actual numerical/letter grade. These
same courses may be taken for certificate
credit receiving only a pass/fail
mark with less demanding assignments.
All of our correspondence courses
are two (2) credit hours (approximately
20 hours of lecture time). The following
details the maximum number of correspondence
credits allowed for our various degree
programs:
Master
of Divinity 16 credits (8 correspondence
courses)
Master of Arts in Biblical Studies 12 credits (6 correspondence courses)
Master of Arts in Christian Leadership 12 credits (6 correspondence courses)
IBS CERTIFICATE CREDIT
COURSES
You
are not required to have a Bachelor's
degree to take courses for Institute
of Biblical Studies (IBS) Certificate
credit. IBS certificate credit courses
are taken only on a pass/fail basis.
The number of assignments is reduced,
but a final examination is still
required. While graduate degree course
credits may be applied to the IBS
certificate program, IBS certificate
credits may not be applied toward
our graduate Master's degrees. A
maximum of eight (8) correspondence
course credits (4 courses) can be
applied toward the IBS certificate.
A certificate may not be earned merely
through correspondence courses.
COURSES FOR PERSONAL ENRICHMENT
Any
of the courses offered in this catalogue
may be taken simply for personal
enrichment. Taken this way, no credit
(graduate degree or IBS certificate)
is offered, assignments are not required,
and grades are not given. No tuition
fee is charged but all other fees
apply.
CHANGE
OF OPTION
When
you enroll, you need to select one
of the above options. You may change
your selection within 60 days of
receiving a course. A tuition fee
of US $15.00 per course must be paid
if you change from the personal enrichment
option (no grade, no credit, no tuition)
to the IBS certificate credit or
graduate degree credit option.
ENROLLMENT
PROCEDURES
HOW
TO ENROLL
By
downloading the form at the lower
part of this page you can start the
enrollment process. Be sure to fill
out the form in detail and enclose
the appropriate fees. Certain Campus
Crusade for Christ staff must be
granted permission by their directors
to charge the cost of a course to
their national ministries. Ask your
national director for details.
It
is not necessary to apply to the
International Graduate School of
Leadership before taking a correspondence
course. However, if you are later
accepted into a degree program at
IGSL, certain correspondence courses
taken for graduate degree credit
may apply toward the completion of
your Master's degree.
COST
The
cost of the course syllabus and tuition
fee is US$ 25.00. All students must
have their own syllabus. The syllabus
is required when taking the course
for personal enrichment as well.
When
you order a course, textbooks may
be ordered from us, may be purchased
locally, or you may borrow the books
from a theological library near you.
If you are taking the course for
graduate degree credit or IBS certificate
credit, you must read the textbooks.
The approximate cost of the textbooks
is listed in the course descriptions.
TIME
LIMIT
When
taking a course for either graduate
degree credit or IBS certificate
credit, there is a time limit for
finishing the reading, tape listening,
and assignments. The time limit for
completing a correspondence course
is six months from the time you receive
it. A two month-extension may be
granted if the IGSL Director of Extension
is notified in writing before the
six month limit expires and he decides
the request is valid. There is no
time limit when taking the course
for personal enrichment.
THE
TAPE LOAN SYSTEM
(Only for orders in the Philippines)
If
you live in the Philippines and will
be doing your study here, you may
borrow rather than buy audio tapes.
To borrow tapes, check the box below
and enclose a P300.00 deposit. Two

return these two tapes, the next

CORRESPONDENCE
STUDY PROGRAM COURSE OFFERINGS
The
following four pages list the correspondence
course offerings. There are both
Audio Tape Courses (graduate degree
credit or IBS certificate credit)
and Inductive Book Studies (graduate
degree elective credit or IBS certificate

each person in all courses whether
taken for credit or for personal
enrichment.
AUDIO
TAPE COURSES
The
Audio tape Courses are based on lectures
are given prominent Christian educators,
pastors, and theologians. A set of
tapes and books are necessary in
order to complete the course for
credit. If you take the course in
a group, your group may wish to purchase
only one set of tapes. The cost of
the tapes is listed with the course
descriptions. The tape
